Starting January 1, 2026<\/strong>, the process of publishing financial statements and issuing audit reports will fundamentally change. According to the regulations of the Hungarian Chamber of Auditors<\/strong> and legislative amendments, the era of paper-based reports is over \u2013 the electronic era begins.<\/p>\n

What exactly changes in issuing audit reports?<\/h3>\n

Under the amendment to Act LXXV of 2007<\/strong>, all statutory independent audit reports must be issued in electronic form<\/strong>, signed electronically, and timestamped from 2026 onward.<\/p>\n

This means:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Paper-based reports will no longer be official<\/strong> \u2013 the previous practice is discontinued.<\/li>\n
  • Sending unsigned PDFs will become unnecessary \u2013 the e-report will be uploaded with the financial statement.<\/li>\n
  • The auditor will issue only one certified document<\/strong>, signed electronically and timestamped, based on the certificate registered with the Chamber.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    How does this affect financial statement disclosure?<\/h3>\n

    When uploading the financial statement, the client or accountant can no longer request an original paper copy or a PDF for publication. The electronic audit report<\/strong> must be submitted together with the financial statement to the Company Information Service \u2013 this will be the officially accepted format.<\/p>\n

    What if a paper version of the audit report is still needed?<\/h3>\n

    In cases such as grant applications, funding requests, or committee meetings where paper documents are requested, the auditor will issue a hard copy of the e-report<\/strong> by printing and certifying it according to official templates.
    \nImportant:<\/strong> This is not a new report, only the official paper version of the electronic document.<\/p>\n

    Challenges and Sustainability<\/h3>\n

    The auditing profession faces significant demographic challenges: according to the Hungarian Chamber of Auditors, over 50% of auditors are over 60 years old<\/strong>, while those under 40 represent barely 2%. This means new technological requirements \u2013 such as electronic reporting and digitalization \u2013 will put many at a crossroads.<\/p>\n
