An audit is an independent, expert examination of the financial statements: an assessment of whether they present the company’s assets, financial position and results in line with the accounting rules, free from material misstatement. The result is the auditor’s report, in which the auditor gives an independent opinion. The work is carried out under the International Standards on Auditing (ISA).
