What is the cafeteria (fringe benefit) system?

The cafeteria is the system of benefits given on top of salary, from which the employee can choose. Some elements (such as the SZÉP card) are taxed favourably, which makes them better value for the employee than the same amount of gross salary. The taxation of these benefits can change from year to year.
