The Paper-Based Social Security Booklet Will Be Discontinued – A New Digital System Is Coming

According to the Ministry of Interior, the traditional paper-based Social Security Booklet (TB-kiskönyv) will soon be replaced by a modern electronic system. Until now, employers used this booklet to record details about their employees’ social security status and healthcare entitlements.

What Will Change?

All this information will now be available digitally through state-run systems. Employers will send the required data electronically, so the authorities and pay offices will always have access to up-to-date, accurate records. This makes administration faster, more transparent, and more efficient for everyone involved.

Less Admin for Employers

Companies will no longer have to fill out, store or manage TB booklets. The change is part of a wider government goal to reduce administrative burdens for employers and improve digital public services.

Why Is This a Good Move?

The old TB booklet didn’t always give a full picture – for example, it often missed some types of work (like self-employment) or certain benefits (like sick pay, maternity benefits, etc.). The new system helps to avoid these gaps and ensures more complete and reliable records.

One More Thing to Note

So far, we haven’t seen any official legislation about this change, and the exact date when it will take effect is still unknown. We’ll share more updates as soon as more details are available.
