Zsofia Koncz, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Technology and Industry, announced the long weekends in Hungary in 2023 on her Facebook page.
Most public holidays in Hungary will fall on weekends, at the beginning of the week or in the middle of the week next year, so there will be no officially rescheduled working days in 2023.
In 2023, there will be a total of 5 long weekends, of which three will be three days long and two four days long.
1 January – The public holiday of New Year’s Day will be on a Sunday.
15 March – The anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 will fall on a Wednesday, so there will be a bank holiday in Hungary in the middle of the week.
Easter (7 April – 10 April) – It’ll be a 4-day long weekend.
Labor Day (1 May) – It will fall on a Monday, which means a 3-day long weekend.
Whit Monday (29 May) – With Whit Monday, we’ll have another 3-day long weekend in May as well.
20 August – The anniversary of the establishment of the Hungarian state will fall on a Sunday.
23 October – The public holiday of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 will fall on a Monday, which will mean a 3-day long weekend.
All Saints’ Day (1 November) – It will fall on a Wednesday, so there will be a bank holiday in Hungary in the middle of the week.
Christmas (24-26 December) – Next year Christmas will be a 4-day long weekend.
2024 will get off to a great start, as 1 January will fall on a Monday, so we’ll start the new year with a 3-day long weekend.
