Working from home offers flexibility, but it also creates fewer opportunities for colleagues to get to know one another beyond their daily tasks. Yet a strong team is built not only through professional collaboration, but also through shared experiences, informal conversations, and, of course, plenty of laughter.
That is why we were looking forward to this year’s autumn team-building event, which took place on October 16 at Indoor Budapest Minigolf on Király Street.
Eighteen colleagues from our Tax, Audit, and Payroll teams participated in the event. This time, we deliberately mixed up the usual working groups and formed two teams of five and two teams of four. As a result, colleagues who do not often work together, or who rarely meet in person due to remote work, had the chance to play side by side.
Jungle, Galaxy, and a Touch of Horror
The minigolf courses were located in three different themed rooms: a jungle, a galaxy, and a horror world. The dark rooms were illuminated by UV and neon lights, creating a unique atmosphere from the moment we stepped inside. The horror-themed room, with its impressive and suitably spooky decorations, felt especially fitting with Halloween just around the corner.
The difficulty of the courses varied considerably. Some were completed with ease by almost everyone, while others proved to be quite challenging, with very few players managing to reach the hole successfully. Participants were allowed a maximum of six strokes per course, and the goal was naturally to sink the ball in as few attempts as possible.
Despite the varying levels of difficulty, everyone could proudly claim at least one hole completed with a single perfect shot.
A Competition, but About More Than Just Winning
Although each player was competing individually, teamwork quickly became part of the experience. We shared strategies, helped one another find the best angles, and worked together to solve the more difficult courses. Some tips worked better than others, but either way, there was never a shortage of laughter.
At the end of the game, an overall winner was announced from among the top-performing players of the four teams. Noémi Gardi won the Autumn Minigolf Championship with an outstanding score of 52 points, finishing comfortably ahead of the field. Congratulations to her on this impressive achievement!
Shared Experiences Bring Us Together
The value of a team-building event is not measured solely by who wins the competition or who completes the most holes in a single stroke. Equally important are the smaller moments: laughing together at an especially unsuccessful attempt, offering advice to a teammate, or having a conversation with a colleague we do not often meet during the workweek.
While remote work makes many aspects of our jobs easier, it cannot fully replace personal connections. That is why events like this are so important to us. They provide an opportunity to step outside our usual workplace roles and get to know one another from a different perspective.
This afternoon once again reminded us that a strong community is built not only through working together but also through sharing experiences. The great atmosphere, countless laughs, and a few memorable minigolf shots will certainly stay with us for a long time to come.
